This collection currently contains two poems from each of the 256 Odù of Ifá. We aim to add one new poem to each Odù every year.
To locate the Àpólà into which an Odù is classified, identify the Àpólà into which an Odù is organized from this link: the 256 Odù of Ifá in their corresponding Àpólà. The classification rules we follow are:
- If an Odù has the same signature on the right and left sides of the Ọpọ́n Ifá or Ọ̀pẹ̀lẹ̀, then that Odù is classified into the Ojú Odù group. The word “méjì” means “two.” Hence, all Odù that have méjì or èjì in their names are in the Ojú Odù.
- If an Odù does not have “méjì” in its name, whichever name is “senior” is the Àpólà it belongs to. Define seniority as follows: Ejì Ogbe is the senior of Ọ̀yẹkú Méjì; Ọ̀yẹ̀kú Méjì is the senior of Ìwòrì Méjì; … Òfún Méjì is the most junior. So, all the following Odù belong to Àpólà Ogbè because Èjì Ogbè is the most senior Odù: Ọ̀yẹ̀kúlogbè, Ìdingbè, Òfúnagbè, etc.
- Note also that each Odù has one predominant syllable, its name that no other Odù has. For instance, Èjì Ogbè is the only Odù that has the “gbè” syllable. Ọ̀yẹ̀kú Méjì is the only Odù that has the “yẹ̀” sylablle. Hence, any Odù other than Èjì Ogbè that has the “gbè” syllable belongs to the Àpólà Ogbè classification.
